una prima incisione del brano avvenne il 14 gennaio ma non venne portata a termine a causa di un forte mal di gola da parte di Elvis.

ALTRE NOTIZIE DISCOGRAFICHE: nel CD “The country side of Elvis”, edito dalla BMG australiana nel 1999 (74321675532), è incluso il master remixato di questa canzone; infatti, si sente pochissimo il coro.
STORIA DELLA CANZONE: “Gentle on my mind” venne registrata per la prima volta dallo stesso John Hartford nel 1967 (60° posto nella classifica Country). Egli scrisse questa canzone ispirato dalla visione del film “Il dottor Zivago”.
Hartford e l’addetto alle pubblicazioni musicali, Chuck Glaser, offrirono “Gentle on my mind” a Johhny Cash ma questi la rifiutò.
Pochi mesi dopo l’incisione di Hartford, Glen Campbell raggiunse la trentesima posizione della graduatoria Country con la sua versione.
Nel 1968, questa registrazione venne pubblicata un’altra volta ed in questa occasione arrivò al 39° posto della Hot 100 ed all’8° della Easy Listening.
“Gentle on my mind” venne premiata con quattro Grammy Awards: miglior esecuzione folk, miglior disco Country & Western, miglior canzone Country & Western e miglior esecuzione vocale maschile Country & Western.
Altri artisti che incisero questo brano furono Patti Page (1968), Boots Randolph (1968), Aretha Franklin (1969) e Dean Martin (1969).
