STORIA DELLA CANZONE: i due autori scrissero questa canzone nel 1868. Il pastore Brooks rimase impressionato dalla sua visita a Betlemme tre anni prima e così nel mese di dicembre del 1868 compose il brano chiedendo all’organista Lewis Redner di comporre la musica, cosa che avvenne nella notte compresa fra il 26 ed il 27 di quel mese.
