Cofanetto di 5 CD in confezione fold out con libretto di 32 pagine.
In questa emissione troviamo quasi tutte le canzoni che Elvis registrò a Memphis durante la sua carriera artistica, in versione pura, senza sovraincisioni, e remixate da Matt Ross-Spang nello studio Southern Groove di Memphis.
Avrebbero potuto fare un’opera “definitiva”, nel senso che si poteva inserire tutto il materiale in studio, ma questo non è avvenuto in quanto sono state lasciate fuori diverse canzoni a favore dell’ennesima proposta dello spettacolo del 20 marzo 1974.
Alcune canzoni, a dire il vero, presentano qualche overdub (davvero molto difficile da “digerire”, ad esempio, “Don’t cry daddy” che non sembra neanche lei…) ma, tutto sommato, ascoltiamo la musica di Elvis in una veste ancora più “fresca”, se non altro diversa da come le nostre orecchie erano abituate. Tutto è opinabile: i mixaggi sono sempre questioni di gusti, quindi a molti possono non piacere… Non va dimenticato che il supporto fisico è, praticamente “morto” e queste emissioni annuali sono le uniche che la Sony pubblica, perciò l’acquisto è quasi “d’obbligo”.
Le copertine inserite sono quelle dell’edizione europea; esiste anche una versione americana ma probabilmente questa è stata realizzata per la vendita sul mercato americano e internazionale al di fuori dell’UE. L’aspetto è identico a quello dell’edizione europea anche se ci sono dei leggeri cambiamenti nella disposizione dei CD e sul retro. Anche i numeri di matrice dei CD sono diversi da quelli dell’edizione europea.
